Jack Priestley’s Family History

This site is a work-in-progress. There is a massive amount to cover. I have included both male and female lines. Keep coming back for more.
I have numbered the generations working backwards from Jack’s as (1)

JOHN BRADLEY and JANE TOMSON (12)

JOHN BRADLEY. We know that Margaret Bradley was baptised in Saxby in 1604, the daughter of John Bradley. Unfortunately, the early registers do not tell us the mother’s name. We have to search the Saxby area in North Lincolnshire for a likely marriage and the baptisms of her siblings.

The most likely candidate is a marriage in Barton upon Humber. This is just short of 4 miles north of Saxby All Saints.

Marriage. Barton upon Humber.
1590 Nov 11  John Bradley and Jane Tomson.

We have been unable to find a credible baptism for John Bradley

JANE TOMSON. Nor have we been able to find Jane’s baptism. The date of their marriage means that they were likely to have been born in the 1560s, soon after Elizabeth I came to the throne. Their baptisms were probably in a parish whose registers do not go back that far.

Their marriage is followed by baptisms in Barton upon Humber of children for John Bradley.

Baptisms. St Peter, Barton upon Humber.
1591 Nov 27  Ellen
1594 Apr 20  Heugh

After 1594 the baptisms for John Bradley’s children in Barton upon Humber cease, but resume in Saxby. Saxby is one of the Low Villages on the northern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. The name Saxby All Saints is used to distinguish it from another Lincolnshire village called Saxby, much further south.

In the absence of a second marriage for a groom called John Bradley, we assume that this is the same couple/

 Baptisms. All Saints, Saxby.
1596  Oct 23  Grace
1600 Jan 17  Thomas
1604 Jul 15 Margaret
1610 Apr 20  Mathew

What happened after that is unclear. We have not found a convincing burial for either Jane or John in the Saxby area. They may have moved further afield.
